About

AWB was born out of a local challenge on the rugged west coast of Northland, New Zealand. In Dargaville, at Baylys Beach, the access road was being washed away and the surrounding sand dunes were eroding with every major storm.

To protect the community and the coastline, the idea of creating a durable sandbag system was developed as a way to stabilise the area and encourage natural dune regeneration.

In 2015, the Baylys Beach Society undertook the first project, constructing and installing the sandbags as a community-led initiative. Backed by a resource consent from the Northland Regional Council, the system quickly proved its value as a practical, sustainable solution for coastal erosion control.

From those beginnings, AWB has grown into a trusted provider of erosion and flood control systems across New Zealand, helping communities, councils, and developers protect land, infrastructure, and the environment.
